Olubadan Is An Accomplished Traditional Ruler - Oba Abimbola

Oba Tajudeen Abimbola, the Balogun of Ibadanland, has described Oba Rasheed Ladoja as an accomplished royal father who has made several reforms in the traditional system of Ibadanland. Speaking during an interview, the progressive-minded elderstatesman who serves as the Balogun of Ibadanland spoke on the one year anniversary of the Olubadan and other Sundry issues affecting the growth of Ibadanland.

Q: In summary, your profile sir ?
A: I was born and bred in Ibadan before I proceeded to England to acquire tertiary education. I am a professional lawyer with several years of experience. I started as a Mogaji over forty years ago and you have to rise step by step before you can attain the position of Balogun of Ibadanland. I must commend the traditional system laid by our ancestors in Ibadan; it has its rules and operation.

Q: From your point of view, do you see the reign of Oba Ladoja as a blessing to the people?
A: His Imperial Majesty Oba Rasheed Ladoja is a great monarch and he has been able to introduce many reforms for the people. Yes, some people may not understand him because he runs a collective governance and does not do things alone; he was educated as a senator and governor before he became a traditional ruler. He is a businessman and tycoon with many investments before emerging as the Olubadan. Kabiyesi is well educated and has a lot of experience in the public and private sectors that has given him the ability and competence to give his best to the public.
Like I rightly said, he has made many reforms in Ibadan traditional councils; he is not moved by money and believes the traditional system in Ibadan is not for sale. Olubadan desires people of intellect, personalities with outstanding qualities and individuals of impeccable character; he does not listen to money bags but protects the interest of the people at all times. Oba Ladoja is trying to build more investment for Ibadan and also encourage the people to invest, ensure justice for the people; he has many visions for the people and the grace to actualise them.

Q: There has been strong agitation for the creation of Ibadan State. What is your position on this?
A: Ibadan was the capital of the old Western Region and out of the old Western Region we have Ondo State, Osun State, Ogun State, Ekiti State and other states. Ibadan is the seat of power in those days and one will continue to wonder why Ibadan has not been made a state. President Tinubu has given us his word towards the creation of Ibadan State and hopefully Ibadan State will soon be created; efforts are being made to ensure it is a success.

Q: What is your message to Kabiyesi on his one year anniversary?
A: I want to appeal to him that he should embrace all and sundry, be patient, have a listening ear and be forgiving. I wish him long years on the throne, wisdom and knowledge to lead the people.
